This is a repeat breeding of the same 2 dogs as the "A" litter. We breed early in January of 08 with an expect delivery
date of March 19. Baby ended up starting Monday the 17th around 7 and went until 6:am on the 18th.
Well after 14 hrs of restlessness and 12 hrs of labor we have 5 pups, 4 females and 1 male. We started out before 5
Monday morning and Baby had her first contraction a little before 7 p.m. Her first pup came at 9:15 at this point my
work called and I had to leave to go fight a woods fire. My wife was not pleased as this was my doing and I was
suppose to be there. We called her sister to come help. Well the second pup came at 11:18. I got home at 00:45 at
which point she still had not had another pup. She started back in having contractions around 1 am at 3:15 I call the
emergency vet hospital because she was having good contraction but no pups. They advised if she had been
pushing that long to come in and they would take some x rays to see if the pup was breach or not and then go from
there. Well it is a 40 minute drive over. My wife drove it in record time I think. It is now 5 hrs since last pup and Baby
has been having contractions for 3 hrs. While my wife was in doing paper work Baby decided to have #3 there in the
vehicle. When we got in they took Baby back for the x-ray. To my surprise they said only 2 more pups. She was huge
this time and I really expected a large litter. Since she was having good contraction on her own they decided to wait
and see how she did with the next one. They set us up with a whelping box and a heat pad. Well just over 1 hr later
out pops #4 and then almost exactly another hr 6 am she has number 5. She retained the last 2 placentas so they
gave her a shot to force it on out. We finally got hone around 7:45. I got a shower and laid down. Kris woke me up 2
hrs later to say Baby had never passed the placentas. She had been sitting in the room with Baby and the pups the
whole time watching. So here we go again back to town to our regular vet. He feels around and is able to remove 1
placenta. He gave her another shot and sent one home with us for me to give an hr later. None have worked so
looking at other options to see for sure if the last placenta is still in there or did we just miss it coming out. Option is a
very expensive ultra sound.
Here is how it all played out. And if this does not make you think twice about breeding then something is wrong with you.
